This is a wonderful rags to riches story, set in the golden era of Hollywood. It focuses on Evelyn Hugo - her Hollywood career, her husbands, and the loves of her life. The story is told from two different perspectives: Evelyn at age 86, telling the story of her life to a magazine writer for a tell-all biography, and from the point of view of Monique, the magazine writer. Interspersed are newspaper and tabloid articles from the era which help to provide the backstory of Evelyn's life. I read this novel for book club, and it was interesting to hear other opinions of it. Taylor Jenkins Reid sure knows how to write a page-turner! This is the 4th book of hers which I've read, and have loved all of them. It's always difficult to remember that these are fiction books; I always get so engrossed in the characters.
